John (Jack) V. Moore (Retired):
Senior partner, born and raised in Elmira. He graduated from Hamilton College in 1962 and Cornell Law School in 1965 and was admitted to the New York State Bar that same year. He is a member of the New York State and Chemung County Bar Associations. In addition to the law practice, he has served as Town Judge (1969-1987) and Town Attorney (1988-2002) for the Town of Elmira and from 1992-1998 was a member of the Committee on Professional Standards, Third Judicial Department.
Jack is past president of the Chemung County Chamber of Commerce, served as a Board Member of Southern Tier Economic Growth, and continues to serve on the Ernie Davis Scholarship Committee (having served as a teammate of the late Ernie Davis). He was actively involved in the Corning LPGA (one of the founding members).
Jack's practice included residential and commercial real estate transactions, commercial real estate development, zoning and land use, business law, and will drafting and estate administration.
Richard (Dick) P. Woodhouse:
Partner, life-long resident of Elmira. He graduated from St. Bonaventure University in 1966 and Albany Law School of Union University in 1969. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1970 and is a member of the New York State and Chemung County Bar Associations. Dick has been Town Justice for the Town of Elmira since 1980.
Dick focuses his practice on trust and estate administration, elder law, real estate law, and business/corporation law, oil & gas lease review and negotiation.
Stephen (Steve) R. Hoffmann:
Associate, born in Schenectady, New York and raised in Homer, New York, began with the firm in 2006. He graduated from Roanoke College in 1993 and the Widener University School of Law in 1996. He was admitted to the Virginia Bar in 1996 and the New York Bar in 2001. Before coming to Moore & Woodhouse, Steve served as Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Elmira. Currently he serves as a part-time Assistant District Attorney for Chemung County and Town Attorney for the Town of Barton.
Steve is a member of the Chemung County and New York State Bar Associations. Steve actively serves on the Board of Directors for the local Kiwanis chapter and Chemung County Habitat for Humanity.
Steve's primary focus is in real estate, handling both residential and commercial real estate transactions. His areas of practice include eviction and other property management issues, municipal law, will drafting, and zoning and land use.
